Friday 28th June
The journey from Merced to Sacramento was uneventful and I even managed to sleep a little. From Sacramento to Salt Lake City was pretty boring and I would have to say that Salt Lake City excelled itself as the unfriendliest Greyhound depot. Funny how you seem to have a desire for a long cold beer when it is difficult to purchase.....lol.
Saturday 29th June
Passed through Nevada, Utah and Wyoming before arriving in Colorado
I left for Denver fairly late so didn't see much of the drive. Woke up pretty early in time to enter Denver but it was very hazy because of the bush fires. One quick phone call to the hostel and I was picked up 10 minutes later at the Greyhound depot. A quick tour of Downtown Denver and then off to the hostel.......very hospitable staff despite the shabbiness of the hostel.......they even offered me breakfast. A very friendly atmosphere pervades Denver......even the homeless stood out as being very clean and well dressed. I asked a local bus driver about this and he told me that many took advantage of the facilities made available to them by the City of Denver.
I took the shuttle bus up and down the 16th Avenue Mall which is closed to traffic........this gave me a good idea of what was available from a tourist's point of view. Got off at the Rock Bottom Brewery for lunch and discovered the magnificent Cobb Salads.......to which I have become addicted and a scooner of beer ......to which I have definitely not become addicted...lol. I went out with a young couple from England to an irish pub for a few beers in the evening
Sunday 30th June
Yesterday on my wanderings I was able to take advantage of the free Internet service at the Main Denver Library so I was able to catch up with my email and chat to let every one know where I was and how the trip is going. Since I didn't have to leave for the bus station until 3:00pm I took the trolley tour around the city. It took 2 hours and was most informative. I also went to the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival......lots of art/craft and performances by school children as well as an extensive range of Japanese food.
I was certainly able to cram a lot into my short stay and made it in good time for my bus connection at 4:00pm to Greenville and Karma.
There are a couple of sites you may find interesting.
